First, over 115 years of tradition (since 1893). The Argentine Open Polo Championship is the most important worldwide interclub event, and the fifth oldest in the world. The second tournament is the Hurlingham Open –also Argentinean.

The team handicap must be between 28 and 40 goals, reached only in Argentina (or at least with Argentinian players). The level of competition is very high, only the best players and best horses get there. The Palermo polo field has the maximum allowed dimensions: 275 × 146 meters. Not every horse supports the demands of speed and distance, plus the demands of the player who wants to win at all costs.

This Argentinian polo championship is a major social event as well a sporting highlight on the Argentine calendar.
